Tat\u0103l s\u0103u, asemenea lui Grigore Ureche, provenea din nobilimea polonez\u0103 \u0219i fusese apropiat al domnitorului Miron Barnovschi-Movil\u0103, cu care avea leg\u0103turi de rudenie prin so\u021bie. L-a \u00eenso\u021bit pe acesta la \u021aarigrad, unde voievodul a fost executat \u00een 1628, \u00een urma uneltirilor vornicului Vasile Lupu. Dup\u0103 eliberarea sa, Iancu Costin a luat tru-pul decapitat al domnului \u0219i l-a \u00eenmorm\u00e2ntat. \u00cen semn de omagiu, \u0219i-a botezat primul fiu cu numele lui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen acea perioad\u0103, Imperiul Otoman a \u00eenceput o invazie \u00een Polonia, atr\u0103g\u00e2nd \u00een conflict \u0219i o\u0219tirile muntene \u0219i moldovene. Hatmanul Costin a r\u0103s-p\u00e2ndit zvonul c\u0103 armatele cazace sosesc \u00een sprijinul le\u0219ilor, iar aceast\u0103 stratagem\u0103 a dus la retragerea turcilor. Totu\u0219i, Abaza-Pa\u0219a a aflat adev\u0103rul \u0219i a c\u0103utat r\u0103zbunare \u00eempotriva lui Moise Movil\u0103 \u0219i a hatmanului, care s-au refugiat \u00een Polonia cu familiile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen 1634, Iancu Costin \u00eenchiriaz\u0103 mo\u0219ia Nowosilka Nowa, l\u00e2ng\u0103 Bar, \u0219i \u00een 1638 ob\u021bine, cu sus\u021binerea regelui, dreptul de indigenat pentru sine \u0219i pentru fiii s\u0103i, \u00een semn de recuno\u0219tin\u021b\u0103 pentru serviciile aduse coroanei, printre care \u0219i salvarea cet\u0103\u021bii Cameni\u021ba de la ocuparea de c\u0103tre Abaza-Pa\u0219a. Iancu Costin se dovede\u0219te a fi un diplomat abil, mijlocind \u00eentre reprezentan\u021bii polonezi \u0219i cei otomani, precum f\u0103cea \u0219i fratele s\u0103u, stabilit \u00een Muntenia, locul de origine al familiei Costin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>T\u00e2n\u0103rul Miron \u00ee\u0219i \u00eencepe studiile \u00een 1647 la colegiul iezuit din Bar, apoi le continu\u0103 la Cameni\u021ba, unde se face remarcat prin inteligen\u021b\u0103 \u0219i noble\u021bea carac-terului. \u00cenv\u0103\u021b\u0103tura sa cuprinde istoria, retorica \u0219i poezia, iar pe l\u00e2ng\u0103 limba polon\u0103, \u00eenva\u021b\u0103 latina \u0219i greaca veche, dob\u00e2ndind o cultur\u0103 clasic\u0103 similar\u0103 cu cea a lui Grigore Ureche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dup\u0103 moartea tat\u0103lui s\u0103u \u00een 1650, Miron este \u00eenrolat ca nobil polonez \u00een armata regal\u0103 \u0219i particip\u0103 \u00een 1651 la b\u0103t\u0103lia de la Beresteczko, \u00eempotriva cazacilor lui Bogdan Hmelni\u021bki \u0219i a alia\u021bilor lor t\u0103tari. \u00cen 1653, pe finalul domniei lui Vasile Lupu, revine \u00een Moldova \u00eempreun\u0103 cu fra\u021bii s\u0103i. Aici \u00eencepe ucenicia \u00een sluj-ba vistiernicului Iordache Cantacuzino, c\u0103ruia \u00eei va aduce mai t\u00e2rziu un omagiu \u00een <em>Letopise\u021b<\/em>. \u00cen anul 1658 este numit sulger de c\u0103tre Gheorghe \u0218tefan, domnitorul Moldovei, \u0219i este trimis \u00een \u021aara Rom\u00e2neasc\u0103 \u00eentr-o misiune diplomatic\u0103, pentru a \u00eencheia o alian\u021b\u0103 \u00eempotriva otomanilor cu Constantin \u0218erban Basarab. Ulterior, \u00een 1659, este avansat paharnic \u0219i apoi p\u00e2rc\u0103lab, particip\u00e2nd la campania \u00eempotriva lui Rakoczi \u00een Transilvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen 1661, Istratie Dabija \u00eel trimite \u00een solie la regele Ioan Cazimir al Poloniei, iar \u00een 1663 \u00eel \u00eenso\u021be\u0219te pe domnitor \u00eentr-o campanie militar\u0103 \u00een Muntenia, \u00een cadrul r\u0103zboiului turco-austriac. Cu acest prilej, Miron Costin vede ruinele podului lui Traian, eveniment ce va r\u0103m\u00e2ne \u00een memoria sa cultural\u0103.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Este numit mare comis \u00een 1664, vornic al \u021a\u0103rii de Sus \u00een 1667 de c\u0103tre Ilia\u0219 Alexandru Vod\u0103 \u0219i, \u00een 1669, Gheorghe Duca Vod\u0103 \u00eei \u00eencredin\u021beaz\u0103 rangul de mare vornic al \u021a\u0103rii de Jos, func\u021bie de\u021binut\u0103 odinioar\u0103 \u0219i de Ureche. \u00cen 1671, este sol al domnului \u0218tefan Petriceicu c\u0103tre hatmanul Ioan Sobieski, viitorul rege al Poloniei, cu care Miron Costin avea rela\u021bii apropiate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cencep\u00e2nd din 1672, redacteaz\u0103 poemul filosofic <em>Via\u021ba lumii<\/em>. Dup\u0103 c\u0103derea Cameni\u021bei \u00een m\u00e2inile otomanilor, marele vizir Ahmed K\u00f6pr\u00fcl\u00fc \u00eel \u00eentreab\u0103 dac\u0103 moldovenii se bucur\u0103 de aceast\u0103 cucerire. Miron r\u0103spunde cu demnitate: \u201eNoi, moldovenii, ne bucur\u0103m s\u0103 se l\u0103rgeasc\u0103 c\u00e2t vor \u00een alte p\u0103r\u021bi, dar peste \u021bara noastr\u0103 nu ne pare bine.\u201d Reu\u0219e\u0219te astfel s\u0103-l conving\u0103 s\u0103 nu ierneze trupele otomane \u00een Moldova, invoc\u00e2nd s\u0103r\u0103cia \u021b\u0103rii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traducerea operei <em>Origines et occasus Transsylvanorum<\/em> a lui Lauren\u021biu Topp-eltin \u00eencepe \u00een aceast\u0103 perioad\u0103. \u00cen 1673 \u00eei sunt publicate, \u00een lucrarea <em>Psaltirea pre versuri tocmit\u0103<\/em> a lui Dosoftei, versuri despre originea rom\u00e2nilor \u0219i <em>Apostroful<\/em>. \u00cen 1674, odat\u0103 cu urcarea pe tron a lui Ioan Sobieski, este numit mare logof\u0103t de c\u0103tre Dumitra\u0219cu Cantacuzino \u0219i trimis \u00een misiuni diplomatice la Constantinopol \u0219i \u00een Polonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pe timpul domniei lui Antonie Ruset, \u00eel \u00eent\u00e2mpin\u0103 pe solul polon Ioan Gninski, c\u0103ruia \u00eei \u00eenm\u00e2neaz\u0103 <em>Cronica \u021a\u0103rilor Moldovei \u0219i Munteniei<\/em>, cunoscut\u0103 \u0219i ca <em>Cronica polon\u0103<\/em>, scris\u0103 sub forma unei epistole \u00een limba polon\u0103, dedicat\u0103 lui Marcu Matezynski. Lucrarea argumenteaz\u0103 originea latin\u0103 a limbii \u0219i poporului rom\u00e2n, av\u00e2nd scopul de a convinge polonezii s\u0103 sprijine eliberarea Moldovei de sub domina\u021bia otoman\u0103. Astfel, \u00eenainte de <em>Descrierea Moldovei<\/em> a lui Dimitrie Cantemir, Miron Costin ofer\u0103 Europei o imagine detaliat\u0103 asupra istoriei \u0219i culturii rom\u00e2ne\u0219ti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scrie <em>Letopise\u021bul \u021a\u0103r\u00e2i Moldovei de la Aron Vod\u0103 \u00eencoace<\/em>, o lucrare mai anali-tic\u0103 dec\u00e2t cea a lui Ureche, pe care o continu\u0103 \u00een anul 1675. \u00cen anul 1680, Miron Costin \u00eei adreseaz\u0103 regelui Sobieski un apel de a porni lupta \u00eempotriva turcilor. C\u00e2nd izbucne\u0219te r\u0103zboiul dintre cre\u0219tini \u0219i otomani (1683), logof\u0103tul se afl\u0103 \u00een tab\u0103ra otoman\u0103, dar prime\u0219te cu bucurie victoria regelui polonez, interpret\u00e2nd-o ca \u00eenceputul declinului Imperiului Otoman. Dup\u0103 \u00eenfr\u00e2ngerea otomanilor la Viena, Duca Vod\u0103 \u0219i boierii moldoveni sunt captura\u021bi de c\u0103tre le\u0219i, \u00eens\u0103 Costin, protejat de Sobieski, r\u0103m\u00e2ne \u00een Polonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen anul 1684, boierii moldoveni refugia\u021bi \u00een Polonia \u00eei trimit regelui un memo-riu redactat de Costin, solicit\u00e2nd eliberarea Moldovei de sub domina\u021bia turceasc\u0103 \u0219i recunoa\u0219terea unor drepturi similare cu cele ale nobilimii polone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tot \u00een acest an, c\u0103rturarul compune <em>Istoria \u00een versuri polone despre \u021aara Moldovei \u0219i Munteniei (Poema polon\u0103)<\/em>, o ampl\u0103 crea\u021bie liric\u0103 \u00een 750 de versuri, dedicat\u0103 lui Ioan al III-lea Sobieski. Inspirat de modelele literaturii polone, textul combin\u0103 fic\u021biunea cu descrierea poetic\u0103 a \u021binuturilor rom\u00e2ne\u0219ti, oferind o viziune idealizat\u0103 \u0219i m\u0103rea\u021b\u0103, aproape vizionar\u0103, asupra acestora \u2013 o imagine ce prefigu-reaz\u0103 lirismul patriotic al lui B\u0103lcescu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen anul 1685, fratele s\u0103u Velicico, \u00eentors deja \u00een Moldova, \u00eei transmite invita\u021bia domnitorului Constantin Cantemir de a reveni \u00een \u021bar\u0103. De\u0219i apropiat de polonezi, Costin este numit staroste de Putna, o func\u021bie la grani\u021b\u0103, departe de Curtea domneasc\u0103, ceea ce reflect\u0103 pruden\u021ba domnului. Se \u00een\u021belege bine cu b\u0103tr\u00e2nul o\u0219tean, ajuns conduc\u0103tor al \u021b\u0103rii la dorin\u021ba boierimii. \u00cen 1686, \u00een contextul unei noi confrunt\u0103ri dintre Sobieski \u0219i turci, moldovenii lupt\u0103 de partea otomanilor. Se produce atunci faimoasa rezisten\u021b\u0103 a pl\u0103ie\u0219ilor de la cetatea Neam\u021b, eveniment evocat mai t\u00e2rziu de Negruzzi \u00een schi\u021ba <em>Sobieski \u0219i rom\u00e2nii<\/em>. Din aceast\u0103 perioad\u0103 dateaz\u0103 \u0219i capodopera lui Costin, <em>De neamul moldovenilor<\/em>. Dup\u0103 anul 1691, rela\u021biile cu domnul Constantin Cantemir se \u00eenr\u0103ut\u0103\u021besc. C\u0103rturarul cade victim\u0103 intrigilor boierilor care \u00eel influen\u021bau pe domnitor \u0219i este ucis \u00een apropiere de Roman, f\u0103r\u0103 a i se permite s\u0103-\u0219i apere cauza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moartea sa este relatat\u0103 diferit de sursele vremii: Dimitrie Cantemir, \u00een <em>Vita Constandini Cantemirii<\/em>, ap\u0103r\u0103 imaginea tat\u0103lui s\u0103u \u0219i acuz\u0103 familia Costin de uneltiri, \u00een timp ce Ion Neculce ofer\u0103 o relatare mai obiectiv\u0103: \u201e<em>De ce Cantemir-Vod\u0103, cum au \u00een\u021beles acel sfat, din Ilie Frige-vac\u0103, a boierilor, au \u0219i r\u0103pedzit \u00eentr-o noapte boierina\u0219i d-\u00e8 lui \u0219i slujitori, s\u0103-i prindz\u0103 pe to\u021bi pe aciie&#8230;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Opera<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Activitatea literar\u0103 \u0219i istoriografic\u0103 a lui Miron Costin este str\u00e2ns legat\u0103 de perioada marcat\u0103 de domina\u021bia otoman\u0103 asupra Moldovei, de pr\u0103bu\u0219irea economic\u0103 \u0219i de ruinarea unei mari p\u0103r\u021bi a boierimii. Prin scrierile sale, el a inaugurat o direc\u021bie nou\u0103 \u00een cultura moldoveneasc\u0103, racord\u00e2nd-o la curentele barocului european. Ra\u021bionalismul exprimat \u00een lucr\u0103rile sale se concretizeaz\u0103 \u00een dorin\u021ba de a instrui, dar \u0219i de a \u00eenc\u00e2nta publicul cititor. Miron Costin \u0219i-a imaginat Moldova eliberat\u0103 de influen\u021ba otoman\u0103, condus\u0103 de un suveran luminat, iar pentru clasa social\u0103 din care f\u0103cea parte, aspira la o situa\u021bie similar\u0103 cu cea a nobilimii poloneze, bucur\u00e2ndu-se de drepturi largi \u0219i de o pozi\u021bie privilegiat\u0103.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Via\u021ba Lumii<\/em> reprezint\u0103 prima crea\u021bie original\u0103 a lui Miron Costin, un poem cu tematic\u0103 filozofic\u0103 ce abordeaz\u0103 ideea instabilit\u0103\u021bii norocului (<em>fortuna labilis<\/em>), fiind conceput cam \u00een aceea\u0219i perioad\u0103 cu psalmii scri\u0219i de Dosoftei. \u00cen introducerea intitulat\u0103 <em>Predoslovia voroav\u0103 la cititor<\/em>, autorul \u00ee\u0219i exprim\u0103 inten\u021bia de a demonstra \u00een limba rom\u00e2n\u0103 ce \u00eenseamn\u0103 poezia metric\u0103. Lucrarea aduce \u00een aten\u021bie o serie de teme recurente \u00een literatura veche: efemeritatea timpului, via\u021ba perceput\u0103 ca o iluzie ori vis, amintirea, soarta nedreapt\u0103. Anumite versuri din aceast\u0103 oper\u0103 au avut o rezonan\u021b\u0103 deosebit\u0103 \u00een epoc\u0103, fiind reluate \u00een numeroase compuneri lirice: \u201eA lumii c\u00eent cu jale cumplit\u0103 via\u021ba\/ Cu griji \u0219i primejdii cum este \u0219i a\u021ba\/ Prea sub\u021bire \u0219i-n scurt\u0103 vreme tr\u0103itoare\/ O lume viclean\u0103, o lume-n\u0219el\u0103toare.\u201d Poemul se \u00eencheie \u00eentr-o not\u0103 moralizatoare: dac\u0103 existen\u021ba omului este o aparen\u021b\u0103 \u00een\u0219el\u0103toare, atunci adev\u0103rata alinare r\u0103m\u00e2ne credin\u021ba \u00een divini-tate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Letopise\u021bul \u021a\u0103rii Moldovei de la Aron vod\u0103 \u00eencoace<\/em>, care continu\u0103 nara\u021biunea \u00eenceput\u0103 de Grigore Ureche, acoper\u0103 perioada cuprins\u0103 \u00eentre anul 1594 \u0219i 1661, anul dispari\u021biei lui \u0218tef\u0103ni\u021b\u0103 Lupu. Pentru redactarea acestei cronici, Miron Costin a apelat la o serie de surse externe, printre care se num\u0103r\u0103 lucr\u0103rile istoricului transilv\u0103nean Lauren\u021biu Toppeltin <em>(Despre originea \u0219i c\u0103derea transilv\u0103nenilor), <\/em>cronica episcopului de Przemysl, Paul Piasecki <em>(Chronika gestorum in Europa singularium)<\/em>, precum \u0219i scrieri semnate de Gvagnin-Paszkowski, Otwinowski \u0219i Twardowski (cf. N. Iorga, <em>op. cit.<\/em>, p. 320). Partea final\u0103 a letopise\u021bului cap\u0103t\u0103 accente memorialistice, iar tonul devine mai grav, reflect\u00e2nd realit\u0103\u021bile dificile ale epocii. Au fost p\u0103strate 56 de manuscrise ale operei. \u00cen <em>Istoria critic\u0103 a literaturii rom\u00e2ne<\/em>, N. Manolescu eviden\u021biaz\u0103 urm\u0103toarele tr\u0103s\u0103turi definitorii:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 o perspectiv\u0103 mai modern\u0103 comparativ cu cea a lui Ureche, cu accent pe analiza cauzelor istorice \u00een plan economic, politic \u0219i social;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 utilizarea frecvent\u0103 a dialogurilor: textul abund\u0103 \u00een conversa\u021bii expresive, unele devenite emblematice. De exemplu, Vasile Lupu, aflat \u00een fa\u021ba unei tr\u0103d\u0103ri, roste\u0219te: \u201e\u00cen zadaru aceast\u0103 slujb\u0103 acum; s\u0103-mi hie spus acestea p\u00een\u0103 era \u00een Ia\u0219i logof\u0103tul.\u201d;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 interesul pentru culisele evenimentelor istorice: autorul relateaz\u0103 zvonuri, intrigi, stratageme diplomatice, iar prin portrete am\u0103nun\u021bite anticipeaz\u0103 stilul lui Ion Neculce. Astfel, \u0218tefan Tom\u0219a al II-lea este descris drept un tiran ce \u021bine al\u0103turi de sine un c\u0103l\u0103u \u201epierz\u0103tor de oameni\u201d, iar naivitatea lui Vasile Lupu este contrastat\u0103 cu perfidia sfetnicului Gheorghe \u0218tefan;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 frazarea este ampl\u0103, ritmat\u0103, cu o construc\u021bie tipic latineasc\u0103, \u00een care verbul apare de obicei la sf\u00e2r\u0219itul frazei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>De neamul moldovenilor, din ce \u021bar\u0103 au ie\u0219it str\u0103mo\u0219ii lor<\/em> este o lucrare incom-plet\u0103, p\u0103strat\u0103 \u00een 29 de copii manuscrise \u0219i publicat\u0103 pentru prima oar\u0103 de Mihail Kog\u0103lniceanu \u00een 1852.
